Santa Rosa Junior College, Petaluma Campus presents A Celebration of El Dia de los Muertos with music by Cuyuy. Among Latin American and European cultures, a day of the year is set aside to celebrate El Dia de los Muertos, The Day of the Dead, a time to remember those who have died with music, altars and special foods.
Tonight's program features the music of the South American band, Cuyuy. Cuyuy is a quechua word which means "to transport a person from one place to another." Through the indigenous music of South America, full of mysticism, magic, imagination and color, the members of Cuyuy share the folklore, traditions and values of their native lands. This Sonoma County-based band is composed of musicians that have been friends for several years. Each is from a different South American country and their repertoire covers nearly the whole continent. Performers include Javier Salmon, Carlos Aguilar and Lorenzo Pastores and friends.
