Supporting art students from Casa Grande, Petaluma and St. Vincent’s High Schools

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Petaluma’s top 100 high school art students have not had a place to show their work in a public space. Our goal is to offer them a full art exhibition experience at the Petaluma Arts Center. The project will offer a pathway for students to enter the public, professional art arena. Collaborators include teachers, parents, community members and Petaluma Arts Center staff and volunteers.

Students from the highest level art classes will create, select and frame their art for public exhibit in a fine arts gallery. They will develop their voices and be recognized as serious artists. Students will experience professional training in gallery processes, and may sell their work if they wish.

Fellow students will support the exhibit. The opening reception will be catered by Casa Grande’s culinary students. Bands from each of the three high schools will perform.

The exhibit will be the first of its kind in Petaluma. We hope this will establish a precedent for an annual exhibition for years to come, and motivate younger students to look forward to it.

FUNDING NEEDS

High School Masterworks remit form

The Masterworks exhibit needs financial support in three key areas; framing, presentation and consultation. We will need funding for professional framing and installation materials. Professional installers and curators will teach an exhibition class. There will be two workshops for students to learn how to mat and frame their own work in a professional manner. Marketing efforts will include news releases, flyers and announcement cards.
