Petaluma buildings on the Petaluma Stone Masonry Tour, to benefit
the Petaluma Arts Council. |
Join stonemason Edwin Hamilton
and historian Katherine Rinehart on a tour of Petaluma stonemasonry
to benefit the Petaluma Arts Council.
The day will begin with a slideshow
and discussion of the stone industry in Sonoma County (starting in
the 1880's) and its use in the historic architecture of
downtown Petaluma. This will be followed by a walking tour of downtown
Petaluma, a National Register District. The tour will focus on the history
and various styles and techniques used in stone construction.
Central Market,
one of Petaluma's premier restaurants, will provide lunch. Central
Market owner and chef, Tony Najiola, offers fresh local ingredients
and authentic Northern California cuisine.

The day will end with a visit to Edwin's
studio in Cotati (carpooling required) for a demonstration of
the tools and stone working techniques used in the fabrication of
the buildings that were observed during the morning walk. Guests will
also have a chance to preview sculpture being fabricated for a November
show at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. |
$85 per person, limited to 20 persons.
Proceeds to benefit the Petaluma Arts Council.
