The Arts Council's Art Paths Project envisions an integrated system of art paths that incorporate public art, landscaping, and artistic design features along select multi-use trails. These paths will contribute to the introduction of art into the public realm, highlight beauty in functionality, create an imaginative tourist attraction, and encourage more human-based transportation in Petaluma.
The Art Paths project envisions the path system hub at the former Railroad Depot site that currently houses the Petaluma Visitors Center and the freight building, which is being proposed as an Art Center. Existing and potential trails emanating from the hub will consist of varied art elements for the user to interpret and enjoy, and/or the paths may wind alongside or lead to an artistic destination.
Art Paths is a broad based project with infinite possibilities, from gardens to murals to embedded mosaics and beyond. The Petaluma Arts Council hopes to involve various community groups with creating art paths, including school groups, neighborhoods, and seniors, with collaboration from the City of Petaluma's Bicycle and Pedestrain Committee and Public Art Committee.
